Maggie’s Yorkshire, a new centre for the cancer care charity designed by Heatherwick Studio, broke ground today in a ceremony attended by key stakeholders of the project.

Due to open in early 2019, the studio’s concept is based on a series of vessel-like elements which will provide users with a variety of bright open and domestic spaces alongside private rooms used for counselling.

Made from a composite timber frame structure including glue laminated fins, cross-laminated timber roof slabs and laminated veneer lumber columns, the design also incorporates rooftop gardens and a roof terrace which will further add to the site’s surrounding green space, designed by award-winning landscape designers Balston Agius.
